OK, its been 4 months since my last post, but I'm back. It was a very busy summer for the Westbrook family. We went on vacation to Florida for 10 days and had a great time, but comming home Marla had emergency gall bladder surgery in New Orleans. After we got home Marla's mom had surgery for pancreatic cancer, and is now going through chemo. My mom's brain cancer returned and she passed away at the end of July. The kids started back to school in August, and we are now getting back into a good routine.
My triathlon schedule didn't go like I planned this summer, but I'm back in training mode, and getting ready for some fall running and doing the White Rock Marathon in December. I have run this race twice before in 95-96, but 11 years later I am much slower and the long runs seem to hurt more than I remember. I've been getting some good long runs in though, with several over 2:30 already. My pace is in the 10:15-10:45 range, but I feel I'll get faster as fall rolls around.
Swimming is another issue, and I'll start getting to the pool in November or December. Can't you tell how much I love swimming. To get ready, I have been going to the gym and getting some good upperbody workouts in. I'm hoping this will help my swimming speed a little, but who knows?
Another issue that has gotten worse over the summer is my weight. During all the stress of the summer I started eating bad, and drinking Dr. Peppers again. I'm currenty at 200lb, so I need to doabetter job and get back in the 180's again.
