I turned 44 on Monday so I decided to do a nice 44k birthday run this past weekend. I knew it was probably going to be a little rough since it's only been 2 weeks since Cowtown but that's what ultra runners do, right? Well I had a friend that wanted to run the first half with me so I never turn down an opportunity to run with someone. We met up at 7am on Sunday morning and started our run a little before the sun came up due to the time change. We made small talk and probably ran the first 13.5 miles a little fast (2:08), but it was good to have the company pass the time.
After he left I headed back out and the next 8-9 miles were a little slower but not too bad. The last 5 miles were pure torture and ended up walking about 25% of the time but I was able to get it in and feel like I'm doing a good job of keeping my mileage going. It's looking like Big D will be my next race on April 10th, so I should be ready to give it a good go!
In other news, me and the wife are headed to NYC for a four day weekend in a couple of days. We are staying right on Time Square and hoping to see everything we can during the few days we have. Really just looking forward to being without the kids for a little while.

Happy, happy Belated Birthday!!!!
Have fun in NY... Is this the Vagazzling weekend?
I hope you have an awesome time in NYC! It is always very nice to get away, and recharge with your spouse and away from the kids. Enjoy!
So funny how runners operate. My birthday is this weekend (30th) and I did my first 30 mile run a 1 week before my birthday. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who operates like this!
Yes Stacey it is! Should be interesting!
Thanks Hannah, congrats on your 30 miler!
Can't wait to hear all about it!! hee hee
Blog surfing this evening. Happy Birthday or more importantly, Happy 44-K. Gotta read some more on your blog and check up on your training log.
I've done 3 ultras.... 2 went well, 1 was a disaster.
Happy running. Keep it up.
