I've made a decision on my fall racing schedule and my attempt at 100 miles will not be happening. At one point I felt I needed to run the event to be considered a "Real" ultra runner, but now I really don't care. I'm comfortable knowing that I can run a marathon just about anytime I want to, and feel that trail 50k's are really fun events. If I want to spend a little extra time training, a 50 miler might be tempting, but for right now I'm just going to enjoy running and see which marathons fit into my fall and winter calendar.
I've also got several kids playing sports and I want to make sure I make it to their games and support them whenever they play. Family is still my number one priority, so running will be my hobby, just like it should be. If you are running some events in the Texas area let me know, maybe I can fit it into my new schedule of events. I have some blogging buddies that I think are running the San Antonio marathon, so I might have to join them, I've got 4 months to train and have a pretty good base right now.

You don't need a belt buckle to be an ultrarunner!!!
Totally wise decision!! Yes, people with busy lives run 100s, but they do things like get up at 3am to run, miss out on their very limited down time in the evenings, and are chronically exhausted. No thanks. Would love to see you at the Frankenthon. Super fun small race here that is very well done.
Right there with you - exactly the same reason I "retired" from 100s.
Fyi I'm planning on running San Antonio and the Bryan/College Station marathon. Maybe I'll see you at one - I owe you a dinner!!!
Mark, pretty sure I'm doing SA! Looking forward to it.
